PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. El Camino kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Fabricio Velasquez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brock Barnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fabricio Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barnett shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Velasquez napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Velasquez bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Barnett fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Velasquez sprawls well initially but Barnett persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barnett prevents Velasquez from standing back up.

Barnett looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Velasquez tries to kick Barnett off but Barnett keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Barnett trying to pass the guard but Velasquez defending well.
Velasquez is in trouble now - Barnett has advanced to mount!

Velasquez defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Barnett.

Barnett looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Velasquez is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Barnett jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Velasquez manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Barnett working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Barnett thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Barnett is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Velasquez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Velasquez is trying to control Barnett's posture but Barnett avoids it.

Barnett working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Barnett goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Velasquez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Barnett's guard! Nice work there by Velasquez!
I've been told that Velasquez has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.
Velasquez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Barnett escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Velasquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Velasquez postures up in Barnett's guard and throws a big left but Barnett blocks it.
Velasquez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Barnett is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Velasquez is aware though and is defending well.

Barnett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Velasquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Velasquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Velasquez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barnett is keeping the position for now.
Velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Barnett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Barnett looking for a triangle here. Velasquez is fighting it but it looks tight! Barnett pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Velasquez is tapping out - this one is all over!
