Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yong Winters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gary Smith looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Yong Winters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Gary Smith!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith pushes Winters up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Smith tries to pull guard but Winters forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Winters jumps guard and drags Smith to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Winters tries to strike from the bottom.
Winters has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Winters throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Smith has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA London. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Winters looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Winters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Winters throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.
Winters is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Winters is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Winters is trying to work for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
Smith wants to control but Winters is keeping busy and won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Winters working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Winters prevents Smith from improving his position.

Winters is working for a submission of some sort.
Winters not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Winters missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Winters slips a nice elbow through Smith's hands, connecting with Smith's forehead.

Winters is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smith is just riding it out for now. Winters eventually gives up the hold.
Smith on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Smith avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Winters.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Winters prevents Smith from improving his position.
Winters is nestled in close to Smith, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Winters seems to be looking for submissions.

Winters is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Winters looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yong Winters dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Winters dives in for a single leg takedown but Smith sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Winters shoots in and gets a takedown into Smith's guard.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Winters manages to pass to side control.


Winters is looking for a kimura but Smith is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Winters to get the leverage.

Winters is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?

Winters is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Winters.
Smith is breathing heavily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Winters thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith dodges the ground and pound from Winters.
Winters is chipping away with strikes.

Winters decides to stand back up. Winters steps back and let's Smith get back to his feet.

Smith clinches with his opponent.

Winters has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Smith regains guard immediately.

Smith utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Winters scoring with punches to the head and body.
Winters scoring with some ground and pound.
Winters stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Winters content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Winters postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.
Smith is striking from the bottom but Winters uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Winters is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith pushes Winters off looking to stand but Winters dives back in and keeps control.

Winters is looking for a kimura but Smith is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Winters to get the leverage.

Winters decides to return to a standing position.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Winters.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Winters working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Winters wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yong Winters dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Winters looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Winters throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Winters is in Smith's guard.

Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Winters gets to his feet. Smith looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Winters closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Winters tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Winters to the ground. Winters escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Winters pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Smith back to the cage. Winters follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Winters scores with a one two! Smith had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Winters fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smith to the ground. Winters is now in Smith's guard.
Smith is wriggling around but Winters manages to pass to half guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Winters working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Winters scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Smith is in all sorts of trouble here.
Smith wants to hold on but Winters pushes him away.

Smith defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Winters.

Winters working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Winters raining down hammerfists from mount.
Winters connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Yong Winters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Winters looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Smith is looking to improve his position but Winters isn't that keen on the idea.

Winters jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smith manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Smith tries to bench press Winters off him but Winters keeps the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Winters tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Winters decides to stand back up.
Smith leaves Winters with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yong Winters showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Winters, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
