Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 wins, 17 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akira Akiyama!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akiyama misses with a jab, cross combination.
Grundy fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Akiyama on the side of the head.

It looks like Akira Akiyama has been cut.
Grundy checks a low kick from Akiyama.
Akiyama chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Grundy can pounce on him.

Akiyama tries to keep at a distance but Grundy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Grundy has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Akiyama tries to pull guard but Grundy holds him up against the cage and eventually Akiyama drops back down to his feet.
Grundy scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Akiyama has Grundy pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Grundy manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Akiyama has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Grundy after a bit of a struggle.
Brodie Grundy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akira Akiyama.
Akiyama tries to pull guard but Grundy forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Grundy stalling the fight.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Akiyama has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Akiyama tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Grundy smiles and moves away.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Grundy, right into the meat.

Grundy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Akiyama stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Grundy closes the distance and clinches.
Akiyama fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Grundy lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Akiyama has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Grundy after a bit of a struggle.
Grundy throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Akiyamas head.
Grundy is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Nice body punch from Grundy.
Grundy lands with a left to the head.
Grundy lands a left hand that snaps the head of Akiyama backwards.
Grundy is working Akiyama over against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Grundy.
Akiyama changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Grundy fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Akiyama tries to clinch but Grundy moves out of range.
Grundy swings for the body but Akiyama moves out of range.
A little jabbing left from Akiyama on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A head kick misses from Grundy.
Grundy scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Akiyama closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
A solid leg kick lands there for Grundy.
Akiyama dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Donk. Grundy catches Akiyama right on the button with a cross.

That has opened up Akira Akiyama's cut even more.
Akiyama moves out of range as Grundy throws a body kick.
Akiyama wants to clinch.
Akiyama pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Akiyama bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Grundy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Grundy moves into range and connects with a jab.
Akiyama tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Grundy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A little feinted left hand from Grundy on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Akiyama tries to clinch up.
As Akiyama backs away, Grundy returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Grundy misses with a body kick.
Grundy lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A punch lands to the side of Akiyama 's head but he takes it in his stride.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Akiyama fails to land with a series of punches.
Akiyama dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Akiyama rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Grundy moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Akiyama shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Akiyama on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Akiyama throws a right and a left that both miss.
Grundy fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Grundy is looking to slow Akiyama down with leg kicks.
Grundy misses with a body kick.
Grundy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Grundy on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

It looks like Brodie Grundy has been cut.
Grundy paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Grundy lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Akiyama's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Akiyama moves away from the strike by Grundy.
Akiyama just misses with a punch to the body.
A counter left hand to the body from Grundy misses its target.
Akiyama checks a low kick from Grundy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Akiyama is looking to chop away at Grundy's legs.
Grundy blocks a leg kick.
Akiyama throws a leg kick that is checked
and Grundy counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Akiyama checks a low kick from Grundy.
Akiyama avoids the head kick by Grundy.
Grundy looks for the body kick but Akiyama saw that one coming.
Akiyama misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Grundy counters with a body kick that stops Akiyama in his tracks momentarily.
Akiyama lands a leg kick that knocks Grundy off balance momentarily.
Akira Akiyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grundy with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Grundy lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Akiyama throws out a loose jab but Grundy uses good head movement to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Grundy.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Akiyama has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Grundy.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Grundy.
You can see that Akiyama has visibly slowed down as a result of the leg kicks
Akiyama scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Grundy connects with a high kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brodie Grundy dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Akiyama fails to land with a series of punches.
Grundy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Akiyama can do to turn this around?

Grundy drops Akiyama with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Akiyama looks back up at him and smiles so Grundy waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

The cut above Akira Akiyama's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Akiyama finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Akiyama throws a hook but Grundy avoids it easily.
Akiyama swings away with a body shot that misses
and Akiyama takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Akiyama is rocked!
Grundy lands a brutal uppercut that launches Akiyama off his feet! Akiyama tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Brodie Grundy!
Brodie Grundy tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
