PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Makosa Michinoku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinji Tainaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michinoku comes into the arena with Primavera by Ludovico Einaudi blaring out of the sound system. Tainaka has chosen BATTLE FUNKASTIC as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Makosa Michinoku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinji Tainaka!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tainaka throws a low kick but it's checked well by Michinoku.
Michinoku shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Michinoku shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tainaka but Tainaka pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Michinoku shoots in and bounces Tainaka off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Tainaka tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Michinoku won't allow Tainaka to get back to his feet.

Tainaka has momentary wrist control but Michinoku slips an elbow through the middle.

Michinoku is pushing down on Tainaka's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tainaka is fighting to maintain full guard but Michinoku has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Tainaka throws a right and a left that both miss.

Michinoku fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tainaka sprawls well initially but Michinoku persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Michinoku is working for a kimura but Tainaka is defending it quite comfortably.

Michinoku is looking to take a break and control but Tainaka is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tainaka wants to get back to full guard.
Michinoku is trying to control the action in half guard but Tainaka is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Tainaka is looking for a sweep. Michinoku is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Michinoku takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Tainaka ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Michinoku moves away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A big left from Tainaka misses.
Shinji Tainaka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Makosa Michinoku. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Michinoku throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Michinoku changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tainaka tries to avoid it but Michinoku manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tainaka to the ground. Tainaka escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Michinoku uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tainaka.
Michinoku shoots in for a takedown but Tainaka shows good takedown defense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makosa Michinoku dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Tainaka moves away from the strike by Michinoku.
Tainaka throws an overhand right that lands on Michinoku's shoulder, as Michinoku tries to avoid the shot.

Michinoku takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Tainaka throws a looping overhand right but Michinoku ducks down to avoid it.

Michinoku feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Tainaka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Michinoku's guard.

A close second round but Shinji Tainaka will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Horrible takedown by Michinoku or perhaps it was just good defense by Tainaka which made him look bad.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Michinoku throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tainaka's waist but Tainaka gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Michinoku off to one side.

Tainaka might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Makosa Michinoku overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Michinoku working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Michinoku lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Tainaka down.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Makosa Michinoku.
I think Michinoku has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
