PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ronaldo Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Branden Wooster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wooster comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Jiu-Jitsu Song kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ronaldo Faber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Branden Wooster!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wooster.

Faber closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Faber lands in his opponent's guard.
Faber loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wooster is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Faber is aware though and is defending well.
Faber wants to pass the guard but Wooster is keeping the position.

Wooster had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Faber defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Faber wanted to stand there but Wooster had control of the position.
Faber postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wooster is still trying to improve position.
We've been hearing that Faber has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Faber advances to half guard.
Wooster felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Faber thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Faber connects with a nice short shot to Wooster's temple.

Faber slows the pace down in half guard.
Faber lands with a punch from half guard.

Faber is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Faber seems to be working for a kimura but Wooster defends the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wooster is looking for a sweep. Faber is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wooster gets full guard.
Wooster pulls Faber in close to his closed guard and prevents Faber from doing any damage or advancing position.
Faber postures up in Wooster's guard and throws a big left but Wooster blocks it.
Faber is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Faber controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Faber stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wooster swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wooster looking for a sweep. Not yet Wooster, not yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Faber showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Faber trying to control but Wooster is working from the bottom.
Wooster wants to sweep here but Faber controlling him for the moment.
Faber advances position into side control!
Faber is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Faber tries to advance to mount but Wooster denies him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wooster is not content to let Faber control the position.
Wooster tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Faber tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wooster gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Faber performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wooster trying to control from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronaldo Faber dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Faber drives through with a takedown into Wooster's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Faber cracks Wooster with a solid left hand.
Wooster wants to sweep but no luck.

Faber is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wooster is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wooster has escaped and now he's on top!

Faber controls Wooster momentarily but Wooster frees himself.

Faber is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wooster defends well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Faber looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Wooster has picked Faber up and slammed him! Faber can't keep hold of the triangle and Wooster manages to pass to side control!
Faber is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wooster's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Faber won't allow Wooster to pass to mount.

Wooster is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Faber has managed to free his arm - good work.
Wooster wants to take a breather but Faber is having none of it.
Faber is looking to control Wooster's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Faber avoid being mounted?

Faber looking for submissions off his back.
Wooster is pressing down on Faber's thigh, looking to free his foot. Faber is holding on for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wooster throwing shots but Faber is blocking nicely.
Wooster trying to control the action but Faber is working from the bottom.

Wooster seems to be looking for submissions.
Faber slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Faber is looking to cinch up a triangle. Wooster throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Faber's body to avoid the submission. Faber has instead reached around Wooster's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Faber arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ronaldo Faber!
A very excited looking Ronaldo Faber rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
Branden Wooster spoke after the fight, saying 'I lost... Does anyone know the number to a suicide prevention center?'.
