PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Genki Dama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kong Su han (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 40 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Genki Dama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 27 - 1, fighting out of New York, Kong Su han!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Su han is looking to clinch.
We've been hearing reports that Dama has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Dama shoots in looking for a takedown. Su han tries to sprawl out of it but Dama keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Su han manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dama or perhaps it was just good defense by Su han, which made it look bad.
A slow jab from Dama misses its intended target.
Su han keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Dama.
Dama fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Su han looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Dama tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Su han was well out of range. Poor timing from Dama.
Su han uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dama.
Dama lands a slapping body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dama jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Dama looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Su han!
Su han tries to buck Dama off but Dama is having none of it.

Dama wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Su han, who protects the arm well.

Dama fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Dama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Su han keeps working.
Su han tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dama wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dama lands a few punches from side control.
Dama landing strikes.
Dama working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Dama in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Dama working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dama looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Su han is avoiding damage well.
Dama is looking to take a break and control but Su han is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Dama looks up at the clock and then as Su han takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dama smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Su han tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Dama misses with the ground and pound.
Su han is trying to get back to half guard.
Su han is not content to let Dama control the position.
Su han wants to control but Dama postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Su han tries to buck Dama off but Dama is having none of it.
Dama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Su han keeps working.
Su han is trying to improve his position.
Su han takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Su han defending against the ground and pound.
Su han tries to bench press Dama off him but Dama keeps the position.
Dama trying to control the action but Su han is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Su han is looking for a sweep.
Su han wants to control but Dama postures up.

Dama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Su han is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Su han is trying to control Dama's posture but Dama avoids it.
Dama trying to control the action but Su han is working from the bottom.
Su han is trying to escape the position but Dama is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genki Dama dominated that round.
That's time! Dama's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Su han wants to clinch.
Su han with a jab.
Su han goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A cross from Su han lands.
Dama is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Su han can do to turn this around?
Su han rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dama moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dama changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Su han moves out of range of the strikes.
A jab from Dama misses.
Kong Su han seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dama fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Su han looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dama attempts a counter takedown but Su han avoids it well and moves away.
Kong Su han is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dama connects with a looping right hand.
Dama is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Su han's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Su han tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Su han ducks under a wild hook from Dama.
Su han throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Dama misses with a hook.
Su han pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Su han throws a sloppy head kick and Dama moves out of range easily.
Dama attempts a counter takedown but Su han avoids it well and moves away.
Dama throws out a loose jab but Su han uses good head movement to avoid it.

Su han clinches with his opponent.
Dama keeps control of Su han as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Su han throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Dama on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Dama is looking for a takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Su han manages to break the clinch.
Dama fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Genki Dama. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Su han forces Dama back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dama takes an elbow to the temple.
Su han pushes off an throws an elbow but Dama leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Dama misses with a knee strike.
Su han lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Su han cracks Dama with a nice body shot.
Su han lands a nice knee to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Su han prevents a body shot from Dama.

Su han slows down the pace here.

Su han escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dama paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Su han has Dama up against the cage in a clinch.
Dama has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Su han is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A short body shot lands from Su han as the two fighters clinch.
Dama dodges an elbow strike from Su han.
Dama drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Su han gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Su han pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Su han pushes Dama up against the cage in a clinch.
Su han works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Dama dodges an elbow strike from Su han.
Su han connects with a knee to the head.


It looks like Genki Dama has been cut.

Su han breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Su han chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Dama throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Su han defending well as Dama loads up on a big left hand.
Su han uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dama.
Dama takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Su han throws a shot to the body.
Dama misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Su han moves in looking to clinch but Dama pushes him off.
Dama drops down looking for a counter takedown but Su han sprawls and moves away.
A combination from Su han does no damage.
Su han scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Su han lands a nice leg kick that just misses Dama's sensitive parts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kong Su han showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Genki Dama's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Su han moves into the clinch successfully.
Dama tries to throw a body punch but Su han avoids it by throwing Dama back against the cage.
Su han lands a nice knee to the body.
Su han tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Dama avoids it.
Su han stalling the fight.
Kong Su han seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Su han lands an elbow just above Dama 's eye.
Su han stops a takedown attempt from Dama.
Su han with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Dama blocks the elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Su han breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Su han avoiding damage.

Su han escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dama on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Dama on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Su han checks the leg kick nicely there.
Su han appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Dama is looking to score with low kicks.
Dama blocks a head kick by Su han.
Su han tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dama manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Su han throws a head kick that misses.
Su han ducks under a wild hook from Dama.
Dama gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Su han gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kong Su han!
Kong Su han decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
