PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sylvester Quinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Mcquay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sylvester Quinn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Mcquay!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quinn avoids the head kick by Mcquay.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Quinn enables Mcquay to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Quinn manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Mcquay throws an elbow that misses. Quinn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mcquay's guard. Nice move by Quinn!

Mcquay tries to strike from the bottom.
Mcquay wants to sweep but no luck.
Mcquay utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Quinn throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mcquay keeping moving, preventing Quinn from controlling successfully.
Quinn throws a strike but Mcquay rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quinn pulls Mcquay in to control the position.
Quinn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mcquay is controlling him.
Mcquay has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mcquay is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Mcquay seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mcquay tries to clinch but Quinn moves out of range.
Mcquay just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromQuinn.

Mcquay shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Quinn is trying to defend but Mcquay finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Quinn pushes Mcquay off looking to stand but Mcquay dives back in and keeps control.

Mcquay slows the pace down in half guard.
Quinn blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mcquay.
Mcquay throwing shots but Quinn is blocking nicely.
Mcquay is keen to just control but Quinn is a slippery customer.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Well, if Mcquay is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mcquay moves in looking to clinch but Quinn pushes him off.

Mcquay feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mcquay drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Quinn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mcquay has Quinn in his guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Quinn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Quinn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mcquay wants to stand up but Quinn is controlling him.
Quinn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Quinn dives in and scores a takedown into Mcquay's guard.
Quinn in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Mcquay is looking to stand up but Quinn isn't so interested in that idea.
Quinn keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mcquay's head.

Quinn distracts Mcquay with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mcquay is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mcquay in particular looking to stall.
Quinn tries to get to full guard but Mcquay has control of the leg.

Mcquay passes the guard and advances to mount!
Mcquay tries to control but Quinn wriggling away.

Mcquay is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Quinn has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Quinn!

Quinn lands a couple of digs.
Quinn lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Quinn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mcquay on the ground.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Mcquay closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Quinn is looking to get back to is feet but Mcquay passes into side control.
Mcquay tries to stand but Quinn is controlling his head.
Mcquay misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcquay content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Mcquay tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Mcquay looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Quinn is looking to reverse the position.
Mcquay tries to stand but Quinn is controlling his head.
Quinn manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Quinn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mcquay is looking to stall here but Quinn recovers full guard.
Mcquay would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Quinn wants to get back to his feet but Mcquay is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mcquay trying to control the position from guard on top but Quinn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mcquay tries to clinch up but Quinn circles away and keeps his distance.
Quinn seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Mcquay is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Mcquay shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Quinn napping and manages to drive through into side control!

I would just about give that final round to Austin Mcquay.
I think Mcquay has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
