PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Geronimo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geronimo comes to the cage accompanied by "War," by Edwin Starr. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Don Geronimo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Scott!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Geronimo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Scott sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Scott shoots in but no luck this time.
Geronimo throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Scott closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Geronimo is trying to improve his position.
Geronimo managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Scott.
Scott lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Geronimo down.
Geronimo is pushing Scott's head away, looking to escape. Scott manages to hold on to the position though.
Geronimo defending against the ground and pound.
The ground and pound from Scott seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Scott is looking to take a break and control but Geronimo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Scott tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Geronimo tries to buck Scott off but Scott is having none of it.
Scott trying to control the action but Geronimo is working from the bottom.
Geronimo manages to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Scott wants to control but Geronimo is keeping him busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Geronimo connects with a good right hand that stumbles Scott. Scott circles away out of range and recomposes himself.


It looks like Jack Scott has been cut.
Scott bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Scott changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Geronimo tries to avoid it but Scott manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Geronimo to the ground. Geronimo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Scott takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


Scott is rocked!
Geronimo scores with a shot to the body.
Scott will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Geronimo lands a right hook to the body.
Scott looks gassed!
Geronimo is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Scott is still on wobbly legs! Can Geronimo finish him?
Geronimo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Scott seems to have recovered his senses.
Don Geronimo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Scott.
Geronimo cracks Scott with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Geronimo has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Scott to stand back up!
Geronimo misses with a hook.
Geronimo misses with a series of wild punches.
Scott ducks straight into an uppercut from Geronimo and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Scott maanges to regain guard straight away.


That has opened up Jack Scott's cut even more.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Geronimo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Scott working for submissions but it's allowed Geronimo to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scott makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Scott.
Scott looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Geronimo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Geronimo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Geronimo waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Scott.
Geronimo misses with a few strikes there.
Scott does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Scott changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Geronimo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Scott working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Scott tries to advance position but instead Geronimo slips a leg back in to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Geronimo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jack Scott's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A slow jab from Geronimo misses its intended target.
Scott avoids the body shot from Geronimo.
A shot to de liver by Geronimo. Beautiful body shot.
Geronimo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Horrible takedown by Scott or perhaps it was just good defense by Geronimo which made him look bad.
Scott fails to land the takedown.

Scott has Geronimo up against the cage in a clinch.
Scott is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Geronimo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Don Geronimo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Scott.
Scott is working for takedown but Geronimo is calmly controlling the position for now.
Scott is breathing heavily.

Geronimo breaks the clinch.
Scott tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Geronimo swivels and escapes.
Geronimo swings for the body but Scott moves out of range.
Geronimo lands with a shot to the body.
Geronimo stuns Scott with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A jab-cross combination lands for Geronimo and sends Scott crashing to the mat! Geronimo follows him down to the mat - Scott regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Geronimo decides to stand up.
Geronimo lands an overhand right.
Geronimo connects with a nice cross there... Scott is looking wobbly and Geronimo recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Scott to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Geronimo jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Don Geronimo!
Don Geronimo is the new welterweight champion!
