PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Westaway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun OShea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). OShea has chosen S.O.S. - The Irish Curse as his entrance music. The key to victory for Alex Westaway has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaun OShea!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OShea blocks a low kick nicely.

OShea closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Westaway to the mat! Westaway manages to get full guard.
Westaway utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Westaway on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Westaway tries to get out of the position.
Westaway has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

OShea shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Westaway as he avoids it easily.

OShea tries to clinch up but Westaway circles away and keeps his distance.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by OShea.
Westaway shoots and misses

and OShea moves into the clinch.
Westaway tries to pull guard but OShea holds him up against the cage and eventually Westaway drops back down to his feet.

OShea escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Westaway shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts OShea as he jumps to the side.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

OShea gets to his feet. Westaway looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaun OShea dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Westaway tries for a takedown but OShea sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Westaway throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around OShea's waist but OShea gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Westaway off to one side.
Westaway throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Westaway shoots in for a takedown but OShea shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Westaway. That's going to take a lot out of him.
OShea throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Westaway.

and OShea counters by moving into the clinch.

OShea feints and as Westaway raises his hands in defense, OShea changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Westaway is looking for a triangle here but OShea uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

OShea stands up and we're back to a striking position.

OShea shoots for a takedown but Westaway saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Westaway knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for OShea on the ground.

Westaway wants to sweep but no luck.
Westaway can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as OShea controls the pace.
OShea forces his way into half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OShea is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Westaway has escaped the position, nice work there.
OShea is looking to take a break and control but Westaway is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Westaway gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
OShea throws some wild stikes that Westaway manages to avoid easily.

Westaway tries to hold on but OShea pushes him away.

OShea fails to take his opponent's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaun OShea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Westaway's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

OShea quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Westaway has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! OShea celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
