PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Silas Monk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Baratheon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monk comes to the cage accompanied by Ave Maria. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!

With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Silas Monk!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Baratheon!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baratheon steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Monk. That one must have hurt.
Baratheon swings widly with a right hand
and Monk counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Robert Baratheon has been cut.
Baratheon wants to clinch
and Monk counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Nice defenses there by Baratheon.
Baratheon pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
An attempted straight right counter from Monk misses the target.
Baratheon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Monk manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Monk throws a quick counter kick to the body but Baratheon avoids it.
Baratheon throws an off balance right hand

and Monk counters with a right hand that sends Baratheon tumbling to the canvas! Can Monk finish him? He dives into Baratheon's guard looking to do just that!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Baratheon throws the left hand but Monk avoids the punch easily.
Baratheon throws a low kick, looking for Monk's leg but Monk calmly moves out of range.
Monk lands a glancing blow to the side of Baratheon's head.
Monk avoids the body shot from Baratheon.

Monk sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Baratheon to the ground! Monk dives into full mount looking to finish!
Baratheon tries to hold on but Monk pushes him away.

Baratheon manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.
Monk with the ground and pound but Baratheon uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Baratheon is pulling down on Monk's head. It's preventing any offense from Monk, at least for the moment.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Baratheon in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Baratheon has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Monk seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Baratheon can turn it around.

Monk works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Monk swings wildly with an uppercut but Baratheon uses good head movement to avoid it.

Monk lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

I was talking to Monk's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Baratheon is breathing heavily.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Monk.


That has opened up Robert Baratheon's cut even more.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Monk.
Monk lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Monk tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Monk throws a big uppercut that drops Baratheon! More strikes from Monk and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Baratheon lies dazed against the cage as Monk celebrates with his cornermen!

Silas Monk decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
