PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rupert Gardner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maciek Qaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rupert Gardner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maciek Qaz!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Qaz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gardner misses with a few strikes there.
A combination from Gardner does no damage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Qaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gardner smiles and moves away.
Gardner misses with a two punch combination.
Qaz dives in and grabs Gardner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gardner pushes down on Qaz's head and hops out.
Rupert Gardner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maciek Qaz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gardner throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Qaz shoots in looking for a takedown but Gardner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Qaz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Gardner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Gardner pulls Qaz into guard.

Gardner is pulling down on Qaz's head. It's preventing any offense from Qaz, at least for the moment.

Qaz wants to stand and escape but instead Gardner has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Gardner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gardner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gardner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Qaz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Qaz wants to stand and escape but Gardner is having none of it.
Gardner is fighting to break Qaz's control of his arms but Qaz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Qaz is pulling down on Gardner's head to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gardner closes the distance and clinches.

Qaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Gardner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Qaz, pushing him back against the cage.
Qaz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gardner gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Gardner is trying to maintain a safe position but Qaz gets an underhook and turns Gardner into the cage.
Qaz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gardner pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Gardner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gardner wants to control from the top but Qaz keeps moving.
Gardner is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Gardner postures up in Qaz's guard and throws a big left but Qaz blocks it.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Gardner has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Qaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gardner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well Gardner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
