PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Coco Braziliare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lou Thornton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Braziliare kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is CoCo. Coco Braziliare has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Coco Braziliare!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lou Thornton!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Braziliare pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Thornton tries to clinch but Braziliare moves away

and Braziliare counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Braziliare looking to pass the guard.
Thornton keeping moving, preventing Braziliare from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Braziliare is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Thornton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Braziliare thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Thornton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Braziliare can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Braziliare has gone for a leg lock! Thornton slips out almost immediately though and dives into Braziliare's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Thornton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Braziliare is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Thornton, into his guard.


Thornton had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Braziliare defends it easily.

Braziliare drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Thornton manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Braziliare has Thornton in his guard.

Thornton drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Thornton jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Braziliare looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Thornton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Braziliare has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Thornton has managed to get both his arms back between Braziliare's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Braziliare shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Thornton as he avoids it easily.

Thornton has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Braziliare defend it? Thornton steps over the head and cranks it - Braziliare is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Thornton!
