PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Renato Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Bags (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bags has chosen Rob Zombie - SuperBeast as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Alves!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Larry Bags!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bags swinging wilding here.
Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Bags tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bags manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bags lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Bags takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Bags scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Bags passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Alves!
Alves is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Bags lands a nice shot to the head.
Alves is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Bags has taken his back.

Bags tightening his grip on Alves, looking for the choke.

Alves fending off the submission attempt from Bags.

Bags is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Alves knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Alves for a finish.

Bags tries to free his leg and advance position but Alves is retaining full guard.

Bags is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Alves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bags gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Alves is looking for a triangle but Bags pushes his legs off easily.
Bags working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Bags drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bags jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bags wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bags's guard.
Alves pushes down on Bags's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Alves is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Alves has control of Bags's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Bags regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Alves wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Bags is wriggling around trying to escape.

Alves with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Alves looking to finish Bags with some ground and pound. This is bad for Bags!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bags tries to reverse the position but Alves maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bags tries to hold on but Alves postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Larry Bags dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bags has his takedown stuffed
and Alves counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Alves throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bags throws a lazy head kick
and Alves counters with a series of strikes. Bags will be more careful next time no doubt.
Larry Bags seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves lands with a shot to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alves walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Bags checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Alves digs a good hook to Bags's body.
Alves misses the jab.
Bags displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alves throws out the jab.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Alves takes a swing at Bags's ribcage but misses.
Bags gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Alves counters with a straight right hand.
Alves fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bags shoots and misses
and Alves counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Renato Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Larry Bags.
Bags blocks a head kick by Alves.

and Alves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bags working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Alves is looking to work some ground and pound but Bags has wrist control.

Alves sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bags's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bags is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Alves's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Alves's back!
Alves breaks Bags's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Bags wants to sweep but no luck.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bags manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Alves wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Alves has taken the fight to the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Alves scores with a nice short uppercut.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bags breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bags throws a hook but Alves avoids it easily.

Bags throws a sloppy head kick and Alves moves out of range easily.

and Alves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Alves working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bags's head.
Alves pushing down on Bags's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Bags is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alves frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bags is trying desperately to improve position.
Alves lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Alves takes Bags's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Bags is in trouble.

Bags manages to reverse the position and now he's in Alves's guard. Nice work there by Bags.
Alves looking for a sweep. Not yet Alves, not yet.

Bags thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bags is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Alves has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bags is looking to defend but Alves has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bags! Alves pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bags taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Renato Alves!
