PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bapu Burpha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erik Hiller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hiller is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Rush and Run - Shake and Jump. Erik Hiller told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiller swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Burpha counters with a nice body shot.
A lazy left from Burpha finds it's target.
We've been informed that Hiller has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Burpha uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hiller.

Burpha throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hiller stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

It looks like Erik Hiller has been cut.
Bapu Burpha is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Burpha is looking to chop away at Hiller's legs.
Erik Hiller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hiller looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Burpha is fending him off so far but Hiller persists. Nope, Burpha circles away and we're back to standing.
Burpha misses with an uppercut.
Hiller takes a swing at Burpha's ribcage but misses.
A counter left hand to the body from Burpha misses its target.
Hiller moves away from the strike by Burpha.
Burpha is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hiller.
That kick from Hiller tenderised Burpha's leg. Burpha is trying to keep his angry face on.

Hiller swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

Hiller throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Burpha's corner calls for a 1-2. Burpha obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Hiller ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burpha moves away.
Burpha is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Hiller walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Burpha jabs at Hiller's body.
Burpha takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Burpha scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Hiller misses with a right hand
and Hiller takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Burpha throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Hiller drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Burpha defends it well.

Burpha wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Burpha quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Hiller cracks Burpha with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Hiller misses with a lunging right hand
and Burpha counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hiller takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Hiller fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Burpha avoids it really well and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hiller throws a lazy right hand but Burpha sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Burpha cracks the inside of Hiller's front leg.
Burpha dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Burpha connects with a body shot that sends Hiller's belly button to the back.
A jab from Hiller misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Hiller misses the target.
Hiller throws a head kick but Burpha moves out of range.
Jab, jab by Hiller - just one landing.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hiller. Burpha does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hiller looks to land a right hand but Burpha moved out of range.
Hiller fails to land with a series of punches.
We've been told by Burpha's head coaches at GWad's Playpen that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Burpha works Hiller's body with a nice hook.

and Burpha counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A decent looking cross lands there for Hiller.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Burpha ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hiller throws a poor cross that misses
and Hiller takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Burpha lets loose with a powerful body kick. Hiller will feel that in the morning.
Hiller throws an off balance right hand
and Burpha makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Hiller ducks right into an uppercut from Burpha.
Burpha connects with a solid leg kick.
Burpha lands with a shot to the body.
Burpha throws a leg kick which misses Hiller's front leg but catches the back leg as Hiller tries to avoid it.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hiller jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Burpha circles away from the clinch attempt
and Burpha counters with a thumping low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bapu Burpha dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Erik Hiller's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hiller throws a shot from downtown. Burpha moves away and avoids it.
Hiller scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Burpha doesn't seem bothered though.
Burpha lands with a shot to the body.
A punch combination from Hiller misses.
Hiller scores with a jab to the jaw.
Hiller throws a body shot but no joy.
Hiller rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Burpha counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Oooooh!!! Burpha has knocked Hiller down with a huge combo! Burpha steps away and waves a wobbly Hiller back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Hiller is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Burpha drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Hiller's head, knocking him out cold! Burpha is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Bapu Burpha!
Bapu Burpha spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
