Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Keven Houston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renol Govan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Keven Houston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Renol Govan!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Govan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Houston tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Houston counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Houston manages to break the clinch.

Houston clinches up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Govan has Houston pushed against the cage.

Houston works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Govan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Houston is controlling him.

Houston not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Govan wants to stand but Houston is controlling the position.
Houston is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Govan wants to stand and escape but Houston is having none of it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Houston is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Govan connects with a high kick.
Govan moves out of range of the body kick.
Govan lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Renol Govan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Govan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Houston defends well and Govan ends up having to push Houston into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Houston instigates a clinch.
Houston tries for a takedown but Govan manages to get underhooks.
Govan gets underhooks to prevent Houston's takedown attempt.
Govan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Govan works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Houston drops down looking for an ankle pick but Govan pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keven Houston. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Govan lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Houston tries to land a front kick but Govan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Govan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

so Houston counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Houston content to stall in guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Houston trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Govan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Houston controls the pace.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Houston appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Keven Houston is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Govan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Govan misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Houston avoids the head kick by Govan.

Houston darts in and clinches Govan up against the cage.
Houston prevents a body shot from Govan.

Govan throws a head punch that misses.
Houston is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Govan pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Govan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Houston controls the pace.
Houston seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Govan for as long as he can get away with.

Govan wants to get back to his feet but Houston is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Houston seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Houston postures up in Govan's guard and throws a big left but Govan blocks it.

Houston is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Govan.
Renol Govan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Govan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Govan scores with a three punch combo!
Houston attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Govan lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Govan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Houston tries to clinch up.
Houston tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Govan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Govan goes for a double leg but Houston avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Houston continues to drive forward.
Govan is breathing heavily.
No joy there for Govan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Houston.
Govan is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Houston tries to land a front kick but Govan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Govan lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Govan fails to land with a series of punches.
Govan lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Govan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Govan pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Houston back to the cage. Govan follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Govan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Houston looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Renol Govan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Govan throws a one two combo.
Govan misses with a few strikes there.
Govan throws a head kick but Houston moves out of range.
And Houston counters with a quick kick to the body but Govan blocks it.
Govan throws a combination that misses

and Houston moves into the clinch.
Houston jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Govan walks away with a smile on his face. Houston gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Govan enables Houston to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Govan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Houston won't allow Govan to get back to his feet.
Govan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Houston controls the pace.
Govan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Keven Houston overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Houston continues to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
More hug and hope from Houston.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Houston darts in and clinches Govan up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Houston tries to score a body lock takedown but Govan shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Govan.
Houston is working for takedown but Govan is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keven Houston. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Govan misses with the head strike.
Govan gets through Houston's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Nice body punch from Govan - that landed with a thud.
Houston has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Govan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Houston blocks the elbow strike.
Govan throws a knee to the head but misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Houston is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Govan.
Houston is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Govan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Govan with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Govan misses with a body punch.
Govan landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Govan lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
A right hook to the body lands for Govan.
Houston drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Govan gets the underhooks and prevents it.

It looks like Keven Houston has been cut.

Govan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Houston.
Houston changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Govan fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Govan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Houston manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Keven Houston has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Renol Govan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Govan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Govan stands up and waves to Houston to follow him.

Renol Govan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Govan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
