PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Dirt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Valencia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Valencia's choice of entrance music: High Road - Fort Minor, John Legend. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kai Valencia was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Dirt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kai Valencia!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valencia shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dirt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valencia lands an elbow.

Valencia is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Let's hope that Valencia has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Valencia is trying to stick to Dirt's back but Dirt is turning into Valencia. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Valencia's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Dirt.

Dirt postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Valencia is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dirt, into his guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dirt is on top in guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Valencia is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Valencia is trying to control the position but Dirt postures up.

Dirt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Valencia pulls Dirt in close to prevent any damage.
Valencia bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dirt's guard.

Dirt has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Valencia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dirt.

Valencia stalling.
Valencia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dirt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Dirt.

Valencia's coach down at Hyperion Fight Club was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Valencia's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Valencia can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dirt has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Valencia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've been hearing good reports from Dirt's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Valencia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dirt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A close second round but Kai Valencia will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Dirt's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Dirt isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Valencia stacks Dirt on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Valencia!
