Velka's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Cypress Hill - Insane In The Membrane. Miklo Velka has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Velka cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Velka scores with a head kick. Barnes tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Velka lands with a thumping leg kick.

Velka explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Velka manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Barnes goes for a takedown attempt but Velka pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Barnes chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Velka can pounce on him.
Velka jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
We've been informed that Barnes has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Velka throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Velka seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Barnes has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Velka is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Barnes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barnes tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Barnes is trying to work for a sweep but Velka has mounted him!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Barnes has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Velka after a bit of a struggle.

Miklo Velka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sgt Barnes.
