The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Downes closes the distance and pushes Christ back into the cage.
Christ wants to get back to striking at distance but Downes won't allow it.
Christ scores with a shot to the side of Downes's head.
Christ is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Downes wants to take the fight to the mat but Christ manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Downes is looking to take this one to the mat.
Robert Christ has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cale Downes.
Downes is working for takedown but Christ is calmly controlling the position for now.
Christ gets underhooks to prevent Downes's takedown attempt.

Christ breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Christ tries to bum rush Downes with a series of wild strikes but Downes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Downes shoots in but no luck this time.
Christ shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Downes eats them both and turns towards Christ to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Downes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Christ swivels and escapes.

Downes darts in and clinches Christ up against the cage.
Christ tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Downes goes for a takedown attempt but Christ pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Christ swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Christ lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Downes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Christ as he avoids it easily.
Christ keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Christ throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sloppy strikes from Christ. Those never looked like landing.
Christ fails to land with a series of punches.
Some wild striking there from Christ.
Christ cracks Downes with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Christ scores with a crisp jab that stopped Downes in his tracks.

Downes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Downes has Christ pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Christ manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Downes manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Downes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Christ doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Downes is tightening it up a little... Christ has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Christ reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Christ taps out! Nice BJJ there by Downes!
