PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Granville Avila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lily Hilgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lily Hilgers told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hilgers fails with a takedown attempt.
Hilgers sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Avila lands a high kick!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avila lands with a kick to the temple. Hilgers shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Hilgers pushes Avila up against the cage in a clinch.

Avila's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hilgers fails with the takedown.

Hilgers pivots, looking for a leg kick but Avila is out of range and Hilgers settles back down.

Hilgers wants to get back to striking at distance but Avila won't allow it.
Avila really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hilgers misses with a head kick.
Hilgers lands with a nice body kick.
Hilgers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Avila as he avoids it easily.

You can see the frustration on Hilgers's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hilgers is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hilgers wants to get back to full guard but Avila has mounted him!

Hilgers wants to control but Avila is having none of it.

Hilgers holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Avila tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Hilgers wants to hold on but Avila pushes him away.
Hilgers sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Avila knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hilgers on the ground.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Avila prevents Hilgers from getting back to his feet.

Hilgers leaves Avila with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The referee is keeping an eye on Avila - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Hilgers tries to pull guard but Avila forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Avila breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Avila counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hilgers thinking.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Hilgers tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Avila just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hilgers goes for a takedown in the clinch but Avila prevents it.

Hilgers pushes off an throws an elbow but Avila leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Hilgers is trying to maintain a safe position but Avila gets an underhook and turns Hilgers into the cage.

Avila escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Avila drives through with a takedown into guard.
Avila will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hilgers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Avila defends well.

Hilgers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Avila defends it easily.
Avila is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hilgers can do to turn this around?

Hilgers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Avila doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Hilgers is tightening it up a little... Avila has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Avila reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Avila taps out! Nice BJJ there by Hilgers!
