Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Calvancante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calvancante dives in and scores a takedown into Rodriguez's guard.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Calvancante's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rodriguez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Calvancante is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rodriguez can do to turn this around?
Calvancante seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Calvancante seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rodriguez for as long as he can get away with.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Calvancante is stinking the place up with his stalling.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Calvancante.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Calvancante moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Rodriguez has worked his arm free - good work by Rodriguez!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Calvancante connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Rodriguez some visible discomfort.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Calvancante, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
