PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Reefer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jethro Rusted (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Reefer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jethro Rusted!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rusted throws a lazy body kick

and Reefer counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Rusted!
Rusted wants to control but Reefer postures up.

Reefer is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rusted is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rusted manages to work his way to half guard, despite Reefer's best efforts.
Reefer tries to pass to full mount but Rusted defends it.
Reefer passes to full mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reefer looking to control but Rusted is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rusted tries to lock up and control but Reefer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rusted holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Reefer tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Rusted is squirming around, avoiding Reefer's attempts to control the action.
Rusted keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rusted wants to hold on but Reefer pushes him away.

Reefer jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rusted manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Rusted stops Reefer from passing to mount.
Reefer working away.
Rusted stops Reefer from passing to mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rusted gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Rusted manages to get to full guard.
Reefer stands and throws Rusted's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rusted can't do much from the bottom here.
Rusted tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Reefer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Reefer wants to control but Rusted is keeping him busy.

Rusted is trying to improve his position.
Reefer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rusted keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rusted is trying to improve his position.
Rusted manages to get back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Reefer trying to control the action but Rusted is working from the bottom.
Rusted is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rusted is staying active underneath Reefer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Reefer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Rusted won't allow Reefer to pass to mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rusted controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rusted scores with a head kick. Reefer tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Jim Reefer dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A big left from Reefer misses.
Rusted walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Jab, jab by Rusted - just one landing.
Rusted tries a low kick but Reefer avoids it.
Reefer feinted with a counter takedown.
Rusted thuds his right hand into Reefer's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Rusted throws a body shot but no joy.
Reefer tries to counter with a takedown but Rusted is quick to defend against it.
Reefer shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Rusted closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rusted wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reefer keeps working.
Reefer is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Rusted slips a nice elbow through Reefer's hands, connecting with Reefer's forehead.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reefer wants to control but Rusted is keeping busy.

Reefer looking for submissions off his back.
Reefer works his way to full guard. Good work.
Rusted working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Reefer's head.
Rusted postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rusted is working Reefer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Rusted trying to control the position from guard on top but Reefer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rusted tries to free his leg and advance position but Reefer is retaining full guard.
Rusted lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Rusted keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Reefer's head.

Rusted wants to free his trapped foot but Reefer is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Reefer is looking to get back to full guard here but Rusted has managed to pass to side control instead.

Rusted is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Reefer has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rusted is putting a hurting on Reefer here, landing some big shots from side control.
Rusted with the ground and pound but Reefer regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Rusted tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reefer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rusted performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rusted is continuing to stall.

Reefer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rusted pulls his head out easily.
Rusted working over Reefer with some ground and pound. Reefer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Rusted wants to take a breather but Reefer is having none of it.
Reefer taking some punishment here, with Rusted in his half guard.

Rusted is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rusted passes to side control.
Reefer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Jethro Rusted showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Reefer's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rusted does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Rusted throws a right and a left that both miss.
Reefer throws a hook but Rusted blocks it.
A shot to the liver by Rusted. Beautiful body shot.
Rusted lands with a right hand.
Reefer attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Rusted lands a jab.
A head kick misses from Reefer.

Reefer misses with a series of wild punches.
Rusted connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Rusted throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Rusted feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Reefer's calf.
Rusted throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rusted lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Reefer circles away quickly and effectively.
Rusted bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Rusted. Reefer shrugs it off though.
Rusted throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rusted stuns Reefer with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Rusted has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Rusted throws a head kick but Reefer moves out of range.
Reefer drops down looking for a counter takedown but Rusted sprawls and moves away.
Rusted ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Rusted looks for the body kick but Reefer saw that one coming.
Rusted throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Reefer sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Reefer throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Rusted bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rusted looks up at the clock and then as Reefer takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rusted smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Rusted throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Rusted scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Reefer to see if he's OK.
Reefer is looking for a sweep.
Reefer is working hard here to advance position.
Rusted trying to control the action but Reefer is working from the bottom.
Reefer takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Reefer prevents Rusted from moving into mount.
Rusted wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reefer keeps working.

Rusted has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rusted winds up and cracks Reefer with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Rusted has clasped his hands together around Reefer's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Reefer is not content to let Rusted control the position.
Reefer is looking to regain half guard here but Rusted keeps moving and retains side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jethro Rusted comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rusted has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
