PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jolly Leg Byrd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Hound (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The Hound told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jolly Leg Byrd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, The Hound!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Bruno Lombardi and Jorge Garcia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byrd misses with the body kick
and Hound counters with a nice uppercut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hound is defended easily by Byrd.
Byrd quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Byrd closes the distance and lands a one-two.

It looks like The Hound has been cut.
Byrd misses with a leg kick.
Byrd lands a leg kick that knocks Hound off balance momentarily.
Hound scores with a nice right hand.
Hound takes one on the button.
Hound with a body punch. A glancing blow.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hound. Byrd does a little dance to reset his feet.

Hound shoots in and bounces Byrd off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Byrd escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hound gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Byrd looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Byrd has his foot on Hound's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hound works his way back into a safe position though.
Hound looking to pass the guard.

Hound avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hound stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Byrd swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Byrd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hound can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hound wants to control from the top but Byrd keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Byrd is trying to keep Hound in close.
Byrd seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hound working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Hound avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hound works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Hound wants to lay and pray for a moment but Byrd keeps working.

Hound has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Byrd defend it? Hound steps over the head and cranks it - Byrd is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hound!
