PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Tomb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tomb has chosen Impaled Nazarene - Nyrkilla Tapettava Huora as his entrance music. The key to victory for Tommy Hunter has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tommy Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Tomb!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tomb darts in and clinches Hunter up against the ropes.
Tomb drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hunter pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hunter lands a jab.


It looks like Mark Tomb has been cut.
Hunter throws a series of punches but Tomb moves out of range.
Hunter missing with a left hand there. Tomb was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hunter throws a right and a left that Tomb avoids nicely.
Tomb bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hunter misses with a two punch combination.
Tomb ducks under a wild hook from Hunter.
Hunter jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Hunter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Some wild striking there from Hunter.
Hunter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunter misses with a two punch combination.

Tomb has taken the fight to the clinch.

Tomb turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Tomb manages to end up in side control.

Tomb is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Tomb tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tomb has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hunter is trying to control Tomb's posture but Tomb avoids it.

Tomb wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hunter, who protects the arm well.

Hunter is trying to improve his position.

Tomb is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hunter is trying to get back to his feet.

Tomb looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Hunter is trying to get back to half guard.

Tomb thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Tomb is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hunter has escaped the position, nice work there.

Tomb goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hunter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tomb but great work by Hunter.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Tomb is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hunter tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
No joy there for Hunter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hunter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tomb moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A decent looking cross lands there for Hunter.
Tomb keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Hunter.
Hunter throws a hook to the side of Tomb's head but Tomb sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hunter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tomb moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hunter misses with a wild combination.
Hunter loads up on a big right hand but Tomb slips the punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tommy Hunter will probably get the nod.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hunter misses with a hook. Tomb ducked under it nicely.
Tomb showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hunter.
Hunter throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Tomb closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tomb lands in his opponent's guard.
Tomb in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hunter is on top in guard.

Tomb is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hunter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hunter is sitting in close to Tomb's body. Tomb has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Hunter is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Hunter is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Tomb.
