PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mason Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Manning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gates comes into the arena with Hell Song blaring out of the sound system. Scott Manning has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Mason Gates's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mason Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Manning!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Saam Ante.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manning scores with the left hand. Gates knows he should have avoided that one.
Manning showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gates.
Manning looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Manning misses with the combination.
As Manning tries to get set, Gates tries to push him back and clinch up but Manning manages to avoid the attempt.
Manning is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Gates.
Manning throws a low kick but Gates avoids it.
Manning looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manning avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gates swinging wildly here.
Manning throws out a counter right but Gates avoids it with no problem.

Gates throws a right and a left that both miss.
Manning keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Manning changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Mason Gates is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Manning misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gates avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Manning pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Manning swings for the body but Gates moves out of range.

Manning pushes Gates up against the cage in a clinch.
Gates is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Gates is trying to push Manning away but Manning has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Gates is looking to break free of the clinch but Manning has double underhooks.

Manning tightens his grip and picks Gates up, before dumping him to the ground. Gates manages to land in guard.
Gates keeping moving, preventing Manning from controlling successfully.

Manning with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Manning seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Manning stops Gates from standing up.
Manning pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gates is keeping the position for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Manning sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gates's guard.

Manning is trying to control the action in half guard but Gates is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Manning is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Gates taking some punishment here, with Manning in his half guard.
Manning trying to mount his opponent but Gates defends it.
Manning keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Manning drops an elbow to the side of Gates's head.
Manning is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Gates manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Manning keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Gates pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Manning avoids a punch combination nicely.
It seemed like Manning was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Manning misses with a straight left.
Gates displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Manning changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gates tries to avoid it but Manning manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gates to the ground. Gates escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Manning tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gates was well out of range. Poor timing from Manning.
Gates throws a big counter combination but Manning scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Manning throws a body punch but Gates moves out of range.
Gates definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gates misses with a two punch combination.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Manning! But no joy.
Gates misses with a few strikes there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mason Gates will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Manning is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gates's half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Manning is continuing to stall.

Gates has one foot on Manning's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Manning needs to keep his hands up - Gates had a free shot at his head there.

Manning swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Gates slips under a jab from Manning.
Gates stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gates wants it to stay on the feet.

Manning throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gates was covering up waiting for the punch and Manning finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Manning with a flurry of punches that miss.

Gates is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Manning defends well.

Manning is taking a breather. Gates says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well, if Manning is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gates is trying to stand up here but Manning is controlling him well.
Manning working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Manning lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Gates! More strikes land and this one is all over! Manning jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
