Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lance Heras!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heras clobbers Gaines with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Gaines showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Heras.
Gaines changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gaines pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Heras closes the distance and clinches.
Heras throws an elbow that misses.

Heras breaks from the clinch.
Gaines really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A low kick from Heras misses

so Gaines counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Heras is looking to stand up but Gaines isn't so interested in that idea.
Gaines will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Heras has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gaines off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Heras has Gaines up against the cage in a clinch.
Gaines's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Gaines tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Heras tries a head kick but it misses.
Heras pushes Gaines away with a front kick.
Heras misses with a kick to the body.
Gaines was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Heras will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Heras has managed to clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Gaines's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Heras pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Heras rushes Gaines and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Heras breaks the clinch.

Heras moves into the clinch.

Gaines works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Heras wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Gaines manages to pass to side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gaines is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Heras is trying to stand back up but Gaines is controlling him

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Heras fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gaines, pushing him back against the cage.

Heras misses with a kick to the body.
Gaines thinks about countering with a head kick.
Gaines throws the kick towards the body but Heras avoids it.
Gaines avoids the head kick by Heras.
Heras misses with a wild body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Heras throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Gaines counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gaines fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Heras avoids it really well and circles away.

Gaines swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Heras swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A punch lands to the side of Gaines 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Gaines gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Heras counters with a left to the body.

Heras lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Gaines avoids the head kick by Heras.

Heras does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Gaines swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Gaines jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Heras moves into range and clinches up with Gaines.
Gaines changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Heras fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Heras punishes Gaines's body with a nice straight punch.

Heras tries to bum rush Gaines with a series of wild strikes but Gaines uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gaines lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Lance Heras is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Heras goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Heras misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gaines appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

and Gaines counters with a nice kick to the body.

Gaines tries a head kick but it misses.
Heras throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Heras has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gaines shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Heras pinned against the cage. Heras gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Lance Heras showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Gaines has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Heras.

Heras gets a clinch.
Heras lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like Korey Gaines has been cut.

Gaines turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Gaines manages to end up in side control.

Well Heras has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
