Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Jean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaleva Vettenranta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaleva Vettenranta has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ian Jean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kaleva Vettenranta!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jean closes the distance looking to clinch

and Vettenranta counters with a single leg into guard. Jean didn't expect that.
Vettenranta not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Vettenranta keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jean's head.

Vettenranta is looking to work some ground and pound but Jean has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vettenranta wants to pass the guard but Jean is keeping the position.

Jean controls Vettenranta momentarily but Vettenranta frees himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jean is pulling down on Vettenranta's head. It's preventing any offense from Vettenranta, at least for the moment.
Jean is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jean misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Jean gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Vettenranta is standing up over Jean. Jean looks to escape but Vettenranta dives into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jean gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Jean is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Vettenranta looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jean with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Vettenranta wants to work for an arm triangle but Jean is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Vettenranta is taking a breather. Jean says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vettenranta lands a nice short elbow.

Vettenranta seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Vettenranta shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Vettenranta was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Vettenranta wants to stand but Jean has his arm trapped.

Vettenranta is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Vettenranta lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Vettenranta.

Vettenranta lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Vettenranta is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jean defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
