PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Conan Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ipad Apple (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Conan Balboa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ipad Apple!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Apple lands a nice looking body shot.
Balboa throws a quick inside leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Balboa, right into the meat.
Balboa darts in looking for a takedown but Apple gets double underhooks and turns Balboa into the cage.
Balboa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Balboa swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Conan Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Apple closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Balboa feints and then cracks Apple's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Apple down.
Apple throws a looping overhand right but Balboa ducks down to avoid it.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Apple with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Balboa wants to get back to his feet but Apple is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Apple is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Apple slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Apple has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Apple must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Balboa throws a low kick but Apple moves out of range easily.

A looping hook to the body misses from Balboa. Apple does a little dance to reset his feet.
Apple leaves Balboa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Balboa fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Apple has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Balboa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Apple postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Balboa is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Apple, into his guard.

Balboa wants to get up but he can't break Apple's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Apple is on top in guard.

Balboa wants to stand but Apple is controlling the position.
Apple postures up and lands a big shot to Balboa's brow.
Apple lands a couple of elbows.
Apple really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Balboa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Apple seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Conan Balboa will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Balboa throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Apple keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Balboa throws a front kick aimed at Apple's knee but Apple avoids it well.
It seemed like Apple was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

It looks like Ipad Apple has been cut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Balboa is defended easily by Apple.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Balboa throws a solid leg kick but Apple takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Balboa.

Apple looks up at the clock and then as Balboa takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Apple smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Apple wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Balboa, who protects the arm well.

Conan Balboa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Conan Balboa.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Balboa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
