PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Ogard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Ogard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick Kennedy!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ogard throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kennedy sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A swing and a miss from Ogard.
Kennedy tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ogard throws a half hearted mid kick.
Ogard connects with a nice looking jab.
Ogard misses with a straight right.
Kennedy avoids the body shot from Ogard.
It seemed like Kennedy was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Ogard dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kennedy misses with a few strikes there.
Kennedy has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ogard leaves Kennedy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kennedy gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ogard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Kennedy unleashes a big counter combination but Ogard bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Ogard defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kennedy.

Ogard clobbers Kennedy with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The fighters circle momentarily. Ogard darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Nice uppercut lands for Ogard. That snapped Kennedy's head back.

Kennedy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ogard sprawls well. Ogard wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kennedy gets slowly back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ogard looks to throw the jab but Kennedy is out of range.

Kennedy shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ogard as he avoids it easily.

Kennedy is looking to clinch but Ogard is avoiding it.
Ogard is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Kennedy misses with a wild combination.

and Kennedy makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Ivan Ogard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ogard throws a hook to the side of Kennedy's head but Kennedy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ogard takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Kennedy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Kennedy has closed the distance and engaged Ogard in a clinch.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ogard fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Kennedy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A lazy left from Ogard finds it's target.
Ogard throws a poor cross that misses

and Kennedy counters with a takedown into side control.

Ogard bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Ogard swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kennedy.
Ogard looks to land a right hand but Kennedy moved out of range.
Ogard scores with a jab. Kennedy acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Ogard throws a big shot that misses.

Kennedy pushes Ogard up against the cage in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Ogard's face as he tries to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Ogard dominated that round.

Kennedy shoots in and drives through. Ogard sprawls well.

Kennedy gets a clinch.
Ogard can't break the clinch.
Kennedy tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Ogard is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kennedy can do to turn this around?
Kennedy tries to pull guard but Ogard forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Kennedy is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Ogard rather than just go for the knockout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kennedy lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Kennedy takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Ogard misses with a hook. Kennedy ducked under it nicely.
Kennedy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ogard throws out the jab.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ogard enables Kennedy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ogard manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Ogard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kennedy on the ground.

Kennedy is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ogard is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kennedy goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ogard rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kennedy's guard! Nice work there by Ogard!

Kennedy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ogard doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ogard manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kennedy looking for a sweep. Not yet Kennedy, not yet.
Ogard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kennedy is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Ogard rolls with it to try and escape but Kennedy cranks on the arm and Ogard is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
