PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Neil Rollins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomato Can (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rollins comes to the cage accompanied by Everyday Normal Guy. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neil Rollins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tomato Can!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rollins misses with a series of wild punches.
Rollins is looking to clinch.
Rollins stuffs the takedown attempt from Can. Can gets slowly back to his feet.
Can takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Can wants to clinch but Rollins slips to the side
enabling Rollins to counter with a crisp jab.

and Can counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Can sitting in guard here, content to control.
Rollins is looking to stand up but Can isn't so interested in that idea.
Can preventing the sweep.
Rollins throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Rollins wants to stand and escape but Can is having none of it.
Rollins has momentary wrist control but Can slips an elbow through the middle.
Can trying to control the position from guard on top but Rollins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rollins wants to clinch but Can slips to the side

and Can counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rollins!

Rollins is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Can landing punches.

Rollins tries to control Can's body but Can pushes him off. Rollins squirms to his side and now Can has his back!

Rollins looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Can gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Rollins is trying to get back to his feet but Can has full control of the position and if anything, Rollins has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Rollins takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Can is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Rollins up.
Can is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Rollins is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Can has Rollins flattened out and is raining down punches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Can landing with strikes.
Rollins has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Can has good solid back control here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rollins wants to control his opponent's hands but Can gets his hands free.
Can biding his time, controlling Rollins.
Can Rollins hold on?! Can is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Can is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Can gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Can gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Can apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Rollins wants to clinch up but Can keeps it at a distance.

Rollins gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rollins can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Can controls the pace.
Can lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Can with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rollins misses with a head kick.
Rollins fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rollins lands with a kick to the temple. Can shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Good standup being displayed there by Can as he connects with a hook.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Rollins, right into the meat.
Rollins tries to clinch but Can is having none of it.
Neil Rollins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Can counters with a shoot takedown. Rollins fights it but they end up in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Can stands up over Rollins, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Can scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Can controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Can stops Rollins from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomato Can dominated that round.

Can fails with the takedown
and Rollins counters with a nice low kick that buckles Can's knee momentarily.
Can shoots in for a takedown but Rollins shows good takedown defense.
Can keeps the fight on the outside.
Can shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rollins as he avoids it easily.
Neil Rollins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tomato Can.
Rollins misses with a double jab.
Can swats away the attempt to clinch by Rollins.

Rollins has taken the fight to the clinch.
Can is working for takedown but Rollins is calmly controlling the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Can keeps control of Rollins as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Can.

Rollins drives through and clinches with Can against the cage.

Rollins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Can fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rollins tries to clinch up but Can circles away and keeps his distance.

Can swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rollins lands a jab-cross combination.
A solid leg kick lands there for Rollins.

Rollins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Can doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Can manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rollins lands a head kick. Can smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Rollins shoots in and drives through. Can sprawls well.

Rollins fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Can.
Can avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rollins rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Can moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Rollins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Can swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rollins wants to stand but Can has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rollins slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Can is staying active underneath Rollins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rollins postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Can to stand up.
Rollins is looking to clinch but Can is avoiding it.
Rollins goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Rollins fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rollins throws a sloppy head kick and Can moves out of range easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Neil Rollins will probably get the nod.

The referee warns Rollins that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Can with a couple of short strikes.
Can putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Rollins tries to reverse the position but Can maintains control.
Can has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rollins's face.
Can prevents Rollins from getting the reversal.

Can can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rollins is looking to escape.
Rollins tries to reverse the position but Can maintains control.
Rollins tries to lock up and control but Can gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Can looking to control but Rollins is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rollins manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Can is tying to control. Rollins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Rollins manages to get to full guard.

Can throws a strike but Rollins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Can looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rollins stands up from Can's guard - Rollins perhaps looking for a knockout.

Can is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rollins is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Rollins gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Can tries to score a body lock takedown but Rollins shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Neil Rollins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tomato Can.

I would just about give that final round to Tomato Can.
