Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Weber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Russel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Russel will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Weber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Russel!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Watson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russel plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Jake Weber has been cut.
Russel thuds his shin into the meat of Weber's side.

Russel closes the distance and pushes Weber back into the cage.
Weber tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Russel just stands there and leans against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Weber is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Weber really is a fat lump.
Weber tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Weber wants to break the clinch but can't.
Weber jumps guard but Russel turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Russel goes for a takedown attempt but Weber pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Russel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Russel closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Weber wants to control from the top but Russel keeps moving.
Weber postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Russel pulls Weber in close to prevent any damage.

Russel wriggles free and stands up.
Russel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Weber paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Weber swings for the body but Russel moves out of range.
Russel shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Weber as he avoids it easily.
Weber half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Russel moves out of range as Weber strikes.
Russel goes for a double leg but Weber avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Weber continues to drive forward.

and Weber counters with a single leg into guard. Russel didn't expect that.
Russel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Weber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Weber is looking to work some ground and pound but Russel has wrist control.
Russel wants to stand and escape but Weber is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Weber won't allow Russel to sweep him here.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Russel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Weber's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Weber is on top in guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Russel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Weber.
Weber has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Weber doesn't manage to clinch there - Russel circles away.

Russel has closed the distance and engaged Weber in a clinch.

Russel is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Weber is defending well.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Russel takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Weber has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Russel uses from the top position.

I think Russel has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
