PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Dozer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antero Rokka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rokka is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Twilight Guardians - Out of Our Hands. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Dozer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Antero Rokka!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dozer shoots in looking for a takedown. Rokka tries to sprawl out of it but Dozer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rokka manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As Dozer backs off Rokka throws a huge counter combo but Dozer manages to avoid it all.
Dozer shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rokka sprawls well. Rokka wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dozer gets slowly back to his feet.
Antero Rokka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rokka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Dozer manages to break the clinch.
Rokka has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Rokka lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Rokka tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dozer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rokka throws a series of strikes that have Dozer backpedaling.


It looks like Frank Dozer has been cut.
Rokka dips to his left and cracks Dozer with an uppercut!

Dozer has managed to clinch.
Rokka jumps guard but Dozer turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Dozer takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Rokka manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Rokka has his foot on Dozer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dozer works his way back into a safe position though.
Dozer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rokka swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rokka has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dozer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rokka.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rokka sneaks out the side door and pushes Dozer away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Rokka has a takedown stuffed.
Dozer fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Dozer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rokka throws a lazy right hand but Dozer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Rokka pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Dozer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rokka is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Dozer pulls his head out easily.
Dozer is keen to just control but Rokka is a slippery customer.
Dozer prevents Rokka from improving his position.
Rokka is not content to let Dozer control the position.
Rokka wants to get back to his feet.

Rokka pushes Dozer off and gets back to his feet.
Dozer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rokka drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Dozer defends it well.
Rokka takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Rokka connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Dozer throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Rokka's head.

Rokka shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dozer napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Dozer manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dozer seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Dozer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rokka misses with a few strikes there.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Rokka. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Dozer fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rokka, pushing him back against the cage.

Rokka manages to break the clinch.
Dozer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Dozer tries to clinch up but Rokka circles away and keeps his distance.
Dozer dives in and grabs Rokka's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rokka pushes down on Dozer's head and hops out.
Rokka looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Rokka connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Dozer's hands.

Dozer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Rokka manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dozer scores with a head kick. Rokka tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Dozer closes the distance and clinches.

Rokka manages to break the clinch.
Rokka throws a right hand that Dozer ducks under and follows up with a left that Dozer also avoids with ease.
Dozer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dozer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rokka avoids it really well and circles away.

Rokka lands a lovely overhand right.
Dozer drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Rokka shoots in for a takedown but Dozer shows good takedown defense.
Dozer leaves Rokka with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dozer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Dozer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rokka circles away quickly and effectively.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rokka! But no joy.
Dozer fails with a takedown attempt.

Frank Dozer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dozer uses his free foot to push down on Rokka's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rokka.

Dozer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rokka is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dozer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dozer has escaped and now he's on top!


Rokka is working an open guard so Dozer takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rokka moves in looking to clinch but Dozer pushes him off.
Rokka connects with a good right hand that stumbles Dozer. Dozer circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Rokka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dozer's waist but Dozer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rokka off to one side.
Rokka pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Dozer back to the cage. Rokka follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Rokka throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dozer sees it coming and avoids it easily.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Dozer is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rokka can't fight it off and eventually Dozer manages to take the fight to the floor. Rokka looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

A close second round but Antero Rokka will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Dozer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rokka is trying to defend but Dozer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Rokka is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dozer is aware though and is defending well.

Rokka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dozer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rokka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Dozer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rokka keeps working.
Rokka is working to avoid the ground and pound but Dozer connects with a decent elbow.
Rokka is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Rokka parries the strikes from Dozer easily there. Dozer is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rokka to escape.
Rokka is not content to let Dozer control the position.
Rokka is looking for a sweep.
Check out the look on Dozer's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Rokka manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Dozer wants to free his trapped foot but Rokka is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Antero Rokka decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
