Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Maynard Atkinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dennis Nunes !
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nunes misses with a two punch combination.
Atkinson feinted with a counter takedown.

Atkinson moves into the clinch.
Nunes blocking some punches.
Atkinson has Nunes pressed against the cage, preventing Nunes from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Atkinson looking to slow down the pace here.
Nunes is trying to break the clinch but Atkinson is controlling him.
Nunes looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Nunes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nunes throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Atkinson on the side of the head.


It looks like Maynard Atkinson has been cut.
Nunes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Atkinson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nunes throws a right and a left that both miss.
Dennis Nunes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nunes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nunes dips to his left and cracks Atkinson with an uppercut!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nunes tries to bum rush Atkinson with a series of wild strikes but Atkinson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Atkinson slips a jab and a cross from Nunes .
Nunes throws a left and a right that both miss
and Atkinson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Nunes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Nunes throws a right and a left that both miss.
A punch combination from Nunes misses.
Nunes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nunes wants it to stay on the feet.
A lazy left from Nunes finds it's target.


Atkinson is rocked!
Atkinson drops his hands momentarily. Nunes doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Atkinson staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Atkinson doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dennis Nunes !
