Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Iago Martins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tapio Sammalkorpi!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sammalkorpi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Martins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Martins tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sammalkorpi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sammalkorpi cracks Martins with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Martins looks to move to half guard but instead Sammalkorpi has passed into mount! Damn!
Martins is desperately trying to improve his position but Sammalkorpi has a good base and remains in mount.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sammalkorpi is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Martins can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

We've been hearing good reports from Martins's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

I really don't envy Sammalkorpi right now.
