PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Kygo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juno August (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tommy Kygo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Juno August!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
August darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Kygo lands with a shot to the body.
Kygo looks for a takedown but August sprawls well.
August throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kygo takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Kygo dives in and scores a takedown into August's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kygo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kygo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

August is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kygo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kygo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Kygo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but August manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kygo has August in his guard.


Kygo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
August really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kygo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kygo is on top in guard.


Kygo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kygo has gone for a leg lock! August slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kygo's guard.

August must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

August drops back looking for a leg! Kygo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kygo manages to kick August off! August jumps back into Kygo's guard.

My spies in ReEvolution MMA inform me that August has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

August got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kygo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, August has managed to get both his arms back between Kygo's legs - danger averted.

Kygo has his foot on August's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. August works his way back into a safe position though.

Kygo tries to score a power double leg takedown but August sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kygo somewhat.
August throws a right and a left that both miss.

Kygo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. August is trying to defend but Kygo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Kygo wants to work for an arm triangle but August is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tommy Kygo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kygo has control of August's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and August regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Kygo prevents August from getting the reversal.

Kygo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

August is trying desperately to improve position.

Kygo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but August is surviving well by controlling Kygo's body position as best he can.

Kygo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, August has worked his arm free - good work by August!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kygo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that August can do to turn this around?

August might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kygo haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kygo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kygo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kygo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, August rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kygo's guard! Nice work there by August!

Kygo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. August doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. August manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kygo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but August can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kygo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. August gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Kygo looks for a takedown but August sprawls well.
August let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
The crowd cheers as August lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kygo doesn't seem phased though.

Kygo drops his hands momentarily and August takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
August misses with a few strikes there.

and August connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kygo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has August pinned against the cage. August gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kygo takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
August slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

August tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kygo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kygo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. August knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I would just about give that final round to Juno August.
I think Kygo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
