PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khalan Thaksin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ryan Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Khalan Thaksin!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Thaksin defends well and Jones ends up having to push Thaksin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Thaksin moves out of range easily.
Thaksin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Thaksin misses with a series of wild punches.
Thaksin doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Thaksin.

Jones has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Thaksin uses from the top position.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Thaksin defends it easily.

Thaksin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jones shoots in for a takedown but Thaksin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Thaksin lands a good knee to the midsection. Jones won't want to take too many of those.

Thaksin throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Jones tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Thaksin swivels and escapes.
Thaksin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jones swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Thaksin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Thaksin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Thaksin tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.

and Jones counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jones scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

and Thaksin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Thaksin stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thaksin's guard.

Thaksin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Thaksin has wrist control.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.
Jones is taking a breather. Thaksin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Thaksin is looking to get back to is feet but Jones passes into side control.
Jones misses with the ground and pound.
Jones creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Thaksin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Jones's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Jones tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thaksin is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Thaksin circles away and we're back to standing.

As Jones backs off Thaksin throws a huge counter combo but Jones manages to avoid it all.
Khalan Thaksin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thaksin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Thaksin throws out a leg kick but Jones moves out of range and Thaksin only half commits.
Jones shoots for a takedown but Thaksin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Thaksin is trying to force a seperation but Jones has the dominant position.

Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Thaksin tries to break the clinch but Jones is controlling the position.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Thaksin throws a head punch that misses.
Thaksin tries to break free but Jones pushes him back against the cage.
Thaksin tries to land a knee to the head but Jones blocks with his arms.
Thaksin throws an elbow that misses.

Ryan Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Thaksin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ryan Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
