PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Underwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Anthony Underwood!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machida feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Machida drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Underwood manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Machida has Underwood in his guard.


Machida is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Underwood defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Machida is on top in guard.

Machida wants to control from the top but Underwood keeps moving.

Machida drops back looking for a leg! Underwood is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Underwood manages to kick Machida off! Machida jumps back into Underwood's guard.

Machida trying to control the position from guard on top but Underwood is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Machida's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Underwood is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Machida has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Machida thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Machida stands and throws Underwood's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Machida wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Underwood, who protects the arm well.
Underwood pushes Machida away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Machida gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Machida trying to control the action but Underwood is working from the bottom.

Machida working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Machida is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Underwood's shoulder. That is not cool.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Machida.

Machida is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Underwood knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Machida is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Underwood has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Machida tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Machida has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Machida thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Machida wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Underwood, who protects the arm well.

Machida drops Underwood with a beautiful combination! Underwood stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Machida is looking for the KO!


It looks like Anthony Underwood has been cut.
We've been informed that Underwood has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Underwood wants to clinch.
Machida is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Underwood can do to turn this around?
Machida avoids the head kick by Underwood.
Underwood should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Machida looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Machida is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Underwood doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Machida.
Machida will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Machida is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Underwood defends it well.

Machida is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Underwood is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jon Machida!
