PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeffson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Vegata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Cliff Richard - Summer Holiday. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 35 - 3, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeffson Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Vegata!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vegata sprawls well. Vegata wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Vegata connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Vegata closes the distance looking to clinch
and Gracie cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vegata wants to clinch up but Gracie keeps it at a distance.

The fighters are battling for position here. Vegata manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vegata swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Vegata holds on and takes a little breather.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vegata does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Gracie is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Vegata!

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Vegata is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.

Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Vegata is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gracie is stalling here. Vegata is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Gracie seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Vegata has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Vegata manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Vegata has control of Gracie's left arm, preventing Gracie from doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Vegata is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Vegata has escaped and now he's on top!

Antonio Vegata comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Vegata winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
