The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Bates misses the target.
Frettish has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Bates tries for a takedown but Frettish circles away easily
and Frettish counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like Ash Bates has been cut.
Bates shoots for a takedown but Frettish saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Frettish misses its target.
Frettish swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Bates throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Frettish counters with a nice uppercut.
Bates misses with a takedown
and Frettish counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ed Frettish has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ash Bates.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bates tries to clinch but Frettish moves out of range.
Frettish swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Frettish avoids the head kick by Bates.
Bates throws a wild hook but Frettish just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Bates gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Frettish raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
