PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lou Hole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hole comes into the arena with Louie Louie/ Motorhead blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Lou Hole!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Askren!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Askren throws out a loose jab but Hole uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hole misses with a hook.
Askren takes one on the button.
Hole throws a body punch but Askren moves out of range.
Askren closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hole circles away.
Hole moves out of range of the strikes.
Askren dodges the punch combination from Hole.
A combination from Hole does no damage.
Lou Hole seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hole misses with a body shot.
Hole lunges at Askren with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Askren's hand.
Askren on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Hole misses with a body shot.
Askren tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hole defends well and Askren ends up having to push Hole into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hole seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Hole throws a big shot that misses.
Askren wants to counter the offense by Hole and move into the clinch position.
Askren uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hole.

Hole lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Askren backs up against the cage.
Hole cracks Askren with a right hand to the side of the head.
Askren lands a nice looking body shot.
Hole throws the left hand but Askren avoids the punch easily.
Askren moves away from the strike by Hole.
Hole thows a left - swing and a miss!
Hole just misses with a punch to the body.
Askren's coach down at Canadian Top Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Askren's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Askren keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Hole fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Hole throws out a powerful jab.
Hole throws a head kick that misses
enabling Askren to counter with a crisp jab.
Askren avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hole throws a lazy uppercut

and Askren counters by moving into the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Askren.
Askren lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
A left hand lands to the body for Askren.
Askren scores with a nice hook to the head.

Hole wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hole misses with a short punch on the inside.

Hole pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hole throws a shot from downtown. Askren moves away and avoids it.
Hole tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Askren was well out of range. Poor timing from Hole.

and Askren cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Askren steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hole.

and Askren counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Askren effectively controlling the action here.
Hole swings wildly with an uppercut but Askren uses good head movement to avoid it.

Askren lands a left hand that snaps the head of Hole backwards.
Hole definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Askren works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Hole wants to break free but Askren has control.
Askren lands a right hand.
Askren lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hole backwards.
Hole has had enough of the clinch but Askren keeps him there for the moment.
Hole tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Hole tries to break free but Askren pushes him back against the cage.
Askren prevents Hole from breaking the clinch.
Askren manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Askren stalls.
Askren continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

Askren works on Hole's body with a couple of short punches.

Hole is looking to break free of the clinch but Askren has double underhooks.
Hole is trying to push Askren away but Askren has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hole throws a head punch that misses.
Askren stalling in the clinch.

Hole's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hole waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Askren.
Hole fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Hole jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hole ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Askren moves away.
Hole tries to bum rush Askren with a series of wild strikes but Askren uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Askren is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Askren connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hole. Hole circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hole missing with a left hand there. Askren was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hole misses with a body shot.
Hole misses with an uppercut. Askren saw that one coming.
Hole misses with a lunging right hand
and Askren counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Donk. Askren catches Hole right on the button with a cross.
Hole swings for the body but Askren moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lou Hole will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hole tries to keep at a distance but Askren has taken the fight into the clinch.
Askren is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Hole swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Hole manages to break the clinch.
Hole tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Askren swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Askren jabs Hole to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Askren walks into a jab.
Lou Hole is winning the standup battle so far.
The fighters circling - Hole throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hole tries to move into range but Askren moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Askren keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

A head kick misses from Hole.
Hole's jab looks to have found its range, popping Askren under the eye.
Hole throws a lazy uppercut
and Askren counters with a nice uppercut.

Askren clinches up with Hole and pushes him back against the cage.
Hole's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Askren lands with a right to the head.
Hole working hard to break the clinch.
Askren lands a nice uppercut.


Hole is rocked!
A head punch blocked on the inside by Hole.
Oh Hole is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Askren tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Hole tries to circle away but Askren has him pinned against the cage.
Hole blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hole misses with a short punch on the inside.
Askren swings wildly with an uppercut but Hole uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hole misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hole seems to have got his legs back now.
Hole goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Askren creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Hole's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Hole drops to his knees and Askren pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jon Askren! Jon Askren retains his welterweight title!
During a confident post fight interview, Jon Askren thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Lou Hole had this to say: 'What can I say you got me man'.
