Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Julles Martins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tj Paiva!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martins gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Paiva cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Martins darts in trying to clinch

and Paiva counters with a head kick that drops Martins to the mat! Martins scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!


Martins is rocked!
Martins shoots for a takedown but Paiva saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Oh Martins is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Paiva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Martins's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martins seems to have got his legs back now.

Paiva stands up and waves to Martins to follow him.

Paiva changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Martins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Martins is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Paiva is controlling him well.

Martins is looking to reverse the position.

Paiva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Paiva decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Paiva shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Martins is trying to defend but Paiva finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Paiva wants to work for an arm triangle but Martins is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Paiva gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Martins darts in looking for a takedown but Paiva gets double underhooks and turns Martins into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julles Martins. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Paiva has managed to clinch.

Martins tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Paiva smiles and moves away.

Martins tries to keep at a distance but Paiva has taken the fight into the clinch.

Martins tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Paiva defends well and Martins ends up having to push Paiva into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Julles Martins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martins is looking to clinch but Paiva is avoiding it.

Paiva clinches up against the cage.

Paiva has clasped his hands together around Martins's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Martins bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Martins is breathing heavily.

Paiva turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Paiva manages to end up in side control.

Martins throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Martins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Paiva to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Paiva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Martins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Paiva has managed to get both his arms back between Martins's legs - danger averted.
Paiva stays in close to Martins's body and controls the position.

Martins pushes a forearm under Paiva's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Paiva is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Julles Martins!
Julles Martins decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
