Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Les Willis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Les Willis has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Les Willis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roman Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Topper Green and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Willis blocks a head kick by Mercer.
Willis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mercer as he jumps to the side.
Mercer blocks a head kick by Willis.

Mercer has closed the distance and engaged Willis in a clinch.
Willis is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mercer to keep the fight standing.
Willis tries to pull guard but Mercer holds him up against the cage and eventually Willis drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Les Willis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Willis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mercer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Willis!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Willis is working Mercer over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mercer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Willis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Willis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercer pulls Willis in to control the position.

Mercer has control of Willis's left arm, preventing Willis from doing any damage.
Willis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mercer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Willis wants to stand but Mercer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A combination from Mercer does no damage.
Mercer comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Mercer is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Willis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mercer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Willis moves out of range as Mercer throws a body kick.

Mercer manages to break the clinch.

Mercer dives in and scores a takedown into Willis's guard.
Roman Mercer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Willis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mercer controls the pace.
Mercer postures up.

Mercer wanted to stand there but Willis had control of the position.
Mercer advances position into side control!
Mercer wants to stand but Willis is controlling his arm.
Willis can't do much from the bottom here.
Mercer creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Willis sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Willis is looking for a sweep.
Mercer controlling the position from side mount.
Willis throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mercer is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Willis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mercer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Roman Mercer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Willis throws a half hearted mid kick.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mercer clinches.

Mercer manages to pull guard.
Mercer is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Willis throws a big elbow that misses.

Willis postures up in Mercer's guard and throws a big left but Mercer blocks it.
Willis won't allow Mercer to sweep him here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Willis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mercer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Roman Mercer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Mercer fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Willis sprawls well initially but Mercer persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mercer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Willis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mercer passes to side control.

Mercer is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Let's hope that Mercer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Willis is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
A big strike lands for Mercer! That's really hurt Willis and he's turned his back - Mercer keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Mercer jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roman Mercer!
