PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ritchie Blackmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Oppelaar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blackmore comes to the cage accompanied by 16th century greensleeves. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ritchie Blackmore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 31 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Oppelaar!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blackmore takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Blackmore fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Oppelaar manages to avoid it.
Oppelaar takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Oppelaar on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Blackmore. Blackmore obviously looking to wear him down.
Blackmore with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Oppelaar to score with a decent uppercut.
Blackmore avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Oppelaar throws a series of punches but Blackmore avoids them all with ease.
Blackmore dips to his left and cracks Oppelaar with an uppercut!
Blackmore darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Blackmore shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Blackmore is looking to take a break and control but Oppelaar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Oppelaar is trying to get back to full guard.
Blackmore is pressing down on Oppelaar's thigh, looking to free his foot. Oppelaar is holding on for now.
Oppelaar wants to improve his position but Blackmore is controlling well.

Oppelaar is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oppelaar tries to roll over but Blackmore keeps him under control.
Blackmore working over Oppelaar with some ground and pound. Oppelaar looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Oppelaar has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Blackmore seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Oppelaar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Blackmore wants to pass the guard but Oppelaar is defending well.

Oppelaar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Oppelaar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Blackmore defends well.

Oppelaar has his foot on Blackmore's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Blackmore works his way back into a safe position though.

Oppelaar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blackmore gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Oppelaar is looking to sweep but instead, Blackmore has passed into half guard.

Oppelaar won't allow Blackmore to pass to mount.
Oppelaar is not content to let Blackmore control the position.
Oppelaar is looking for a sweep. Blackmore is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Blackmore lands a nice short elbow.
Oppelaar has hold of Blackmore's hands but Blackmore slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Blackmore wants to pass to mount but Oppelaar is defending the position.
Oppelaar makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oppelaar.
Oppelaar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blackmore is not content to let Oppelaar control the position.
Blackmore moves into full guard.
Blackmore looking for a sweep. Not yet Blackmore, not yet.
Oppelaar with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Oppelaar throws a big right hand that misses.
Oppelaar throwing strikes but missing.
Oppelaar working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Blackmore tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Oppelaar is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Blackmore is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Blackmore wants to stand and escape but Oppelaar is having none of it.
Oppelaar landing with the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ritchie Blackmore will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Oppelaar misses with a head kick.
Blackmore drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Oppelaar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Blackmore.
Blackmore seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Blackmore dives in and grabs Oppelaar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Oppelaar pushes down on Blackmore's head and hops out.
Blackmore keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Blackmore misses with a straight right.
Blackmore sets himself, and Oppelaar steps forward looking for the clinch! Blackmore avoids it this time.
Oppelaar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Oppelaar looks to land a left hand but Blackmore moved out of range nicely.
Blackmore wants to clinch.
Oppelaar throws a hook to the side of Blackmore's head but Blackmore sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blackmore scores with a jab to the head.
Oppelaar walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Blackmore dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Oppelaar scores with a head kick. Blackmore tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Oppelaar slaps away a takedown attempt from Blackmore, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Oppelaar connects with a good right hand that stumbles Blackmore. Blackmore circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Blackmore tries a low kick but Oppelaar avoids it.
Blackmore steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Oppelaar.
Oppelaar slips under a jab from Blackmore.
Dennis Oppelaar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Blackmore drives through with a takedown into Oppelaar's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Oppelaar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Blackmore loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Oppelaar scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Blackmore land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Blackmore stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ritchie Blackmore!
Ritchie Blackmore seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
