PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Islam Sulimani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Abramov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sulimani's entrance music is Walla. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Igor Abramov!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Dirk Anderson and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abramov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sulimani tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Abramov is in Sulimani's guard.

Abramov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sulimani has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Abramov has managed to get both his arms back between Sulimani's legs - danger averted.
Abramov wants to control from the top but Sulimani keeps moving.

Sulimani is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Abramov is aware though and is defending well.
Sulimani will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sulimani has his foot on Abramov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abramov works his way back into a safe position though.

Sulimani tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Abramov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sulimani has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Abramov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sulimani is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
A lull in the action here as Abramov stalls from top position.
Sulimani manages to get back to half guard.
Sulimani misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Abramov seems to be looking for submissions.

Abramov tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sulimani knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Sulimani kicks off Abramov and gets to his feet.

Abramov tries to pull guard but Sulimani holds him up against the cage and eventually Abramov drops back down to his feet.
Sulimani is looking for a takedown.

Abramov has Sulimani pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sulimani manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Islam Sulimani has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Abramov.
Abramov jumps guard but Sulimani stands there with Abramov around his waist. Abramov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Abramov tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sulimani just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sulimani is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Abramov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Abramov should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Abramov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sulimani is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

It seemed like Abramov was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Abramov is looking to take this one to the mat.
Abramov wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sulimani has him pressed against the cage.

Abramov changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sulimani fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Islam Sulimani overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Abramov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Abramov is trying to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abramov covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Sulimani gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Abramov grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Sulimani has the hooks in. Abramov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Abramov is trying to get back to his feet but Sulimani has full control of the position and if anything, Abramov has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Abramov tries to lock up and control but Sulimani gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Abramov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sulimani pulls his head out easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Islam Sulimani.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sulimani, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
