PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Boris Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Pitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Will Pitt will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Boris Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Will Pitt!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pitt tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Slater defends well and Pitt ends up having to push Slater into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Pitt gets caught flat footed, as Slater shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Slater's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pitt lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Slater could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pitt wants to pass the guard but Slater is keeping the position.
Pitt trying to control but Slater is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pitt is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Slater is striking but Pitt is not phased and passes to half guard.
Pitt is keen to just control but Slater is a slippery customer.
Slater throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Pitt tries to stand but can't do so whilst Slater controls his leg.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pitt is stalling here. Slater is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pitt seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Slater has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Slater tries for a kimura but Pitt is defending well.
Slater in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pitt is looking for a sweep.
Pitt seems a little lost for a moment, as Slater dominates the positioning.

Slater thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
A lull in the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Pitt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Pitt takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Slater remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Boris Slater dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Slater rushes Pitt and presses him up against the cage.
Slater lands a left hand.
Slater prevents the takedown attempt.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Slater breaks the clinch.
Pitt has a takedown stuffed.
Slater lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pitt darts in looking for a takedown but Slater gets double underhooks and turns Pitt into the cage.
Boris Slater has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Pitt.
Pitt misses with a low kick.

Pitt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Slater looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Pitt is breathing heavily.
Slater's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Slater keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Pitt's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slater slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Slater advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Slater is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pitt defends it well.
Pitt tries to roll over but Slater keeps him under control.

Slater has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Pitt defend it? Slater steps over the head and cranks it - Pitt is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Slater!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Boris Slater!
