PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robert Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vaino Siitaari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lee might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Paradise City by Guns N' Roses. Vaino Siitaari is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robert Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vaino Siitaari!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Konstantin Menshow and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Siitaari closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lee's guard.

Lee has his foot on Siitaari's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Siitaari works his way back into a safe position though.
Siitaari in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Lee has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Siitaari can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Siitaari wants to stand but Lee is controlling his posture from full guard.

Lee looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Siitaari wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Lee looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Siitaari accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Siitaari is stalling in the full guard.
Siitaari trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Siitaari drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lee looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lee looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lee!

Siitaari tries to improve position but can't.
Lee in side control lands a decent elbow.
Lee wants to control but Siitaari is keeping him busy.
Lee is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Siitaari is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Lee throws an elbow but Siitaari slips to the side and avoids it well.
Lee trying to control the position but Siitaari is working away.

Lee wants to control but Siitaari is keeping him busy.
Siitaari gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Siitaari is looking for a sweep. Lee is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Lee is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Siitaari has managed to free his arm - good work.
Lee prevents Siitaari from improving his position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Siitaari is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Lee wants to take a breather but Siitaari is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lee is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Siitaari has managed to free his arm - good work.

Lee is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Siitaari defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Lee dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Siitaari gets a clinch.
Siitaari stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Siitaari really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Siitaari lands a couple of good shots and Lee has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Lee manages to reverse the position and now he's in Siitaari's guard. Nice work there by Lee.

Siitaari is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Robert Lee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Siitaari looking to control but Lee passes into half guard.

Lee is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Siitaari is looking for a sweep. Lee is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lee uses his free foot to push down on Siitaari's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Siitaari.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lee tries to control but Siitaari wriggling away.

Lee fails to advance to Siitaari's back.
Siitaari is trying desperately to improve position.
Siitaari tries to hold on but Lee postures up.
Siitaari is working to get back to half guard.
Lee can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Siitaari is looking to escape.
Lee is really struggling to control Siitaari but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lee controlling his opponent.
Siitaari keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Lee trying to control but Siitaari is having none of it.
Siitaari tries to lock up and control but Lee gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Lee working for a guillotine from mount but Siitaari is in no mood to give up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Robert Lee will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Siitaari has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lee is working away from the top position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Siitaari is looking to escape.

Lee is working for a submission of some sort.
Siitaari is trying to get back to full guard.

Lee is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Siitaari defends it well.
Lee thows a huge punch but Siitaari dodges it nicely.

Siitaari pushes Lee off and gets back to his feet.

Siitaari moves into range and clinches up with Lee.
Lee blocks an uppercut.
Lee jumps guard but Siitaari stands there with Lee around his waist. Lee gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Siitaari pulls guard successfully.

Lee throws an elbow that misses. Siitaari uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lee's guard. Nice move by Siitaari!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Vaino Siitaari comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lee has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
