Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Kalai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Fredo!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fredo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fredo swinging wildly here.
Kalai is looking to counter punch.
Kalai misses with the combination.
Some wild striking there from Fredo.
Fredo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Kalai counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kalai advances to half guard.
Still in half guard, Kalai seems content to control.
Fredo is trying to maintain the position but Kalai is very close to passing his half guard.
Kalai controlling the action here.

Fredo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kalai thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kalai moves into full mount! Fredo won't be happy about that!

Kalai wants to control the pace but Fredo is squirming around nicely.

Kalai can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fredo is looking to escape.
Kalai lands a big shot there that rocks Fredo but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Fredo is trying to escape the mount.
Kalai connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Fredo is desperately trying to improve his position but Kalai has a good base and remains in mount.
The referee warns Fredo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Fredo working to try and regain half guard.
Kalai trying to control but Fredo is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fredo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kalai's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kalai moves in looking to clinch but Fredo pushes him off.
Kalai throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fredo swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Fredo throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kalai counters with a series of strikes. Fredo will be more careful next time no doubt.
Fredo moves out of range of the body kick from Kalai.
A low kick from Kalai is predictable there
letting Fredo counter with a right hand.

and Kalai moves into the clinch.

George Kalai is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fredo looks to land a combination but Kalai avoids it well.
Kalai shoots for a takedown but Fredo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kalai drops his hands momentarily and Fredo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Fredo throws Kalai to one side and escapes!
Fredo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kalai tries to bum rush Fredo with a series of wild strikes but Fredo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Fredo lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kalai backs up against the cage.


Kalai is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fredo throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Oh Kalai is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fredo throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kalai.
Kalai slips a jab and a cross from Fredo.
Kalai moves away from the strike by Fredo.
Fredo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kalai seems to have got his legs back now.
Fredo is breathing heavily.

Kalai shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fredo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kalai is standing up over Fredo. Fredo looks to escape but Kalai dives into side control.

Kalai tries to stand but Fredo is controlling his head.
Kalai has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kalai working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Fredo parries the strikes from Kalai easily there. Kalai is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Fredo to escape.

Kalai wants to stand but Fredo is controlling his arm.
Kalai lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
We've been informed that Fredo has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Kalai tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Kalai is trying to get an arm triangle but Fredo is defending well.

Fredo is trying to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kalai is looking to take a break and control but Fredo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fredo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kalai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kalai slows the pace down.
Fredo is trying to control Kalai's posture but Kalai avoids it.
Kalai wants to control but Fredo is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jose Fredo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Fredo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kalai wants to stand up but Fredo is controlling him.
Fredo trying to control the position from guard on top but Kalai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kalai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Kalai throws a right and a left that Fredo avoids nicely.

Jose Fredo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fredo throws the left hand but Kalai avoids the punch easily.
Kalai fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kalai takes the fight into the clinch.
Kalai has Fredo pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fredo manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Fredo tries to pull guard but Kalai holds him up against the cage and eventually Fredo drops back down to his feet.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kalai.

Fredo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Fredo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fredo misses with a few strikes there.
Kalai throws a nice looking combination but Fredo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Fredo unleashes a big counter combination but Kalai bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Kalai wants to clinch up but Fredo keeps it at a distance.
Sloppy strikes from Fredo. Those never looked like landing.
Kalai changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Fredo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kalai takes the fight into the clinch.
Fredo trying to land knees to the body.

Kalai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kalai shoots in and drives through. Fredo sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Kalai. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kalai has his takedown stuffed
and Fredo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kalai shoots in for a takedown but Fredo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Fredo throws a counter combo.
Fredo jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Fredo misses with a hook.
Fredo keeps the fight on the outside.

Fredo lands a left and a right that send Kalai crashing to the mat, dazed. Fredo thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fredo throws a series of punches but Kalai moves out of range.
Kalai goes for a double leg but Fredo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fredo continues to drive forward.
Fredo scores with a jab to the body.

Kalai finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Fredo's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Kalai falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Fredo!
