PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Marques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jiu Jitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marques comes to the cage accompanied by mosh. Jitsu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Nikkfurie- The a la Menthe kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabio Marques!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jiu Jitsu!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marques swinging wildly here.
Jitsu lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Marques scores with a jab to the jaw.

Jitsu avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jitsu shoots in but Marques avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jitsu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Marques manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
It looked like Marques wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jitsu looks to land a combination but Marques avoids it well.
Marques was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jitsu takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Jitsu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marques is fending him off so far but Jitsu persists. Nope, Marques circles away and we're back to standing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fabio Marques has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu Jitsu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jitsu darts in looking for a takedown but Marques gets double underhooks and turns Jitsu into the cage.

Jitsu throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Marques tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jitsu is in Marques's guard.
Marques is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jitsu is controlling him.
Jitsu trying to control the position from guard on top but Marques is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marques might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Marques wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Jitsu manages to pass to side control.

Jitsu is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Marques has managed to free his arm - good work.
My spies in Animal House inform me that Jitsu has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Jitsu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Marques knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jitsu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Marques is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Jitsu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marques is looking to stand up but Jitsu isn't so interested in that idea.

Jitsu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jitsu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jitsu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Marques has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jitsu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Marques knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Marques knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jitsu on the ground.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Marques.

Marques breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jitsu uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marques.
Jitsu fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Marques tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jitsu was well out of range. Poor timing from Marques.
Jitsu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jitsu shoots in looking for a takedown but Marques manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jitsu's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jitsu fails with a takedown attempt.
Marques went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Jitsu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Horrible takedown attempt by Jitsu or perhaps it was just good defense by Marques, which made it look bad.
Jitsu takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Marques counters with a crisp right hand that drops Jitsu! Marques lets Jitsu back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Jitsu is still on wobbly legs! Can Marques finish him?

Jitsu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Marques to the ground. Jitsu is now in Marques's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jitsu prevents Marques from getting back to his feet.
Jitsu seems to have recovered his senses.
Jitsu tries to free his leg and advance position but Marques is retaining full guard.

Marques has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Jitsu is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Jitsu tries to score a body lock takedown but Marques shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Marques wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jitsu has him pressed against the cage.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jitsu.
It looked like Marques was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Marques throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Fabio Marques is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jitsu gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Jitsu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Marques pushes Jitsu away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jitsu gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Jitsu is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Marques looks calm but he's in trouble here. Jitsu gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Marques is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Jitsu lets go of the hold and Marques can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jiu Jitsu!
