Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cest Cuzao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cest Cuzao has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jesse Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cest Cuzao!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cuzao wants to clinch but Mathis slips to the side
letting Mathis counter with a right hand.
Cuzao tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cuzao just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromMathis.
Cuzao tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Mathis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mathis really is a fat lump.

Cuzao feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mathis has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Cuzao has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cuzao throws a punch but it's blocked by Mathis.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Mathis has hold of one of Cuzao's legs. Cuzao is fighting the takedown attempt but Mathis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Cuzao controls Mathis momentarily but Mathis frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cuzao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mathis is looking to stand up but Cuzao won't let him.

Mathis drops back looking for a leg! Cuzao is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cuzao manages to kick Mathis off! Mathis jumps back into Cuzao's guard.

Mathis won't allow Cuzao to sweep him here.
Mathis wanted to stand there but Cuzao had control of the position.
Mathis postures up in Cuzao's guard and throws a big left but Cuzao blocks it.

and Mathis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Mathis counters with a shoot takedown. Cuzao fights it but they end up in guard.
Mathis distracts Cuzao with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cuzao is trying to keep Mathis in close.

Mathis stands up from Cuzao's guard - Mathis perhaps looking for a knockout.

Mathis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cuzao swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mathis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mathis sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cuzao's guard.

Mathis seems to be working for a kimura but Cuzao defends the submission attempt.
Mathis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Mathis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mathis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Mathis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cuzao is just riding it out for now. Mathis eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mathis is trying to work for a kimura but Cuzao is defending well.
Mathis wants to pass to mount but Cuzao is defending the position.
Mathis is thwarting Cuzao's attempts to control the position.

Mathis stands up from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cuzao shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mathis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mathis has his feet on Cuzao's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

and Mathis counters with a big head kick but Cuzao shrugs it off.

Mathis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cuzao defends it well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mathis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cuzao, up you get!

Mathis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Cuzao lands with a kick to the temple. Mathis shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mathis circles away from the clinch attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Mathis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mathis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cuzao wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Mathis with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Mathis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
