PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Grice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jurmas Uusisto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Grice might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to GZA - Shadowboxin'. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Gary Grice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Jurmas Uusisto!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grice throws a nice looking combination but Uusisto bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Uusisto's corner calls for a 1-2. Uusisto obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Uusisto lands with a cross.

Uusisto lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Grice sprawling to the canvas. Uusisto follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Grice hang on?


Grice is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Uusisto throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Oh Grice is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Grice on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Grice trying to control here.
Grice keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Grice is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Grice seems to have got his legs back now.
Uusisto is looking to take a break and control but Grice is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Uusisto thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Grice's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Uusisto missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Uusisto is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Grice has managed to free his arm - good work.
Grice is looking to improve his position.
Grice gets back to full guard.
Uusisto throwing strikes from guard but Grice blocks nicely.
Uusisto lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Grice pulls Uusisto in close to his closed guard and prevents Uusisto from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Uusisto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Uusisto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Grice is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Grice definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Uusisto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Grice looking for a sweep. Not yet Grice, not yet.
Uusisto trying to control the position from guard on top but Grice is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Uusisto controlling from the top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Grice blocks a jab.
Grice was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Uusisto throws a push kick but Grice slaps the foot to one side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grice throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Uusisto sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Uusisto's corner calls for a 1-2. Uusisto obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Uusisto wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Nice uppercut there from Uusisto.
An inside leg kick lands from Uusisto.
Grice lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Uusisto cracks Grice with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Uusisto connects with a crisp jab.
Uusisto throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Grice sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Uusisto connects with a nice looking jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Grice throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Uusisto lands with a straight right. Grice didn't see that one coming.
Uusisto cracks Grice with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Grice tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Uusisto pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Grice is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jurmas Uusisto!
Gary Grice was interviewed post fight and said 'Wu Tang fuh evah!'.
