PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damo Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chris Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Damo Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henry off to one side.
Henry lands with a shot to the body.
Henry tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones is looking for the big counter here.
Henry dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Henry's head and hops out.
Henry goes for a double leg but Jones avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jones continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Henry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Henry shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Henry's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged Henry in a clinch.

Jones breaks from the clinch.

Henry closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jones did well to prevent Henry getting side control.

Jones manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Henry keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones tries to pull guard but Henry holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.

Jones has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Henry clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Jones throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Henry is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Henry breaks Jones's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Jones is controlling Henry's posture.
Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones is adopting a defensive guard.

Jones throws his legs up looking for a submission but Henry uses it to pass to side control.

Henry has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Henry lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Jones tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Henry was well out of range. Poor timing from Jones.

Henry turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Jones instigates a clinch.
Jones holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Henry tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jones avoids it.
Jones tries to pull guard but Henry won't allow it.
Jones wants a takedown but no success here.
Jones is stalling here.

Jones drags the fight down to the ground.
Henry works over Jones with some ground and pound from guard.
Henry not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Henry wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Jones is still trying to improve position.
Jones looks winded!
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Henry stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Henry will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Henry bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Jones closes the distance and pushes Henry back into the cage.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jones looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.
Henry is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Henry wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jones trying to control the pace.
Jones stalling away here and it's allowed Henry to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Henry doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Jones paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Henry - great work!

During a confident post fight interview, Chris Henry thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
